Transitioning to high school is an important milestone. It’s an exciting time, filled with many new challenges and opportunities that can bring up mixed feelings for students and families.
Feeling anxious about fitting into their new ‘big pond’ and expectations of new study practices is common for many students.
Head of Year 7, Ms Carey Warhurst says “parents can help by reassuring their child that their teachers are here to support them in both their learning and social development.”
It is easy to become overwhelmed during this transition and it is important for parents to be supportive and have a positive attitude.
The main focus in Term 1 is around organisation and creating consistent and realistic routines.
“We have an enthusiastic and supportive team here at Grammar whose role is to help make this transition as smooth as possible,” says Ms Warhurst.
“There are lots of opportunities and I would encourage parents and students to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible whether it be academic, sporting or cultural. Year 7 is a wonderful year, sink your teeth into the life here at Grammar” says Ms Warhurst.
We are looking forward to supporting our Year 7 cohort during this milestone year.
