At Sunshine Coast Grammar School, we take immense pride in celebrating the contributions of our students. Today, we shine the spotlight on Mariselle Botha, Year 12 student and dedicated Youturn Youth Ambassador.
Mariselle’s commitment to service and leadership exemplifies the spirit of community involvement. As a Youturn Youth Ambassador, Mariselle plays a vital role in spreading awareness about crucial health and community services, child safety and homelessness across the Sunshine Coast and is actively involved in fundraising events, including the recent Year 12 Sleepout.
“The Sleepout was a great opportunity to spread awareness about homelessness by experiencing less comfortable sleeping conditions,” said Mariselle.
Mariselle’s dedication to community service is evident through her involvement in Grammar Helping Hands events, including beach clean-ups and supporting the Disabled Surfers Association. She is also an active member of the school’s Amnesty International Team, working to raise awareness on human rights issues and fostering meaningful conversations with her peers.
Mariselle’s passion for giving back extends beyond the classroom to international communities, recalling her recent to Fiji and her opportunity to work with kindergarten children.
“It was a life-changing experience for me. It is so special how we can make an impact on people’s lives by just involving ourselves and giving our time,” said Mariselle.
The importance of volunteering is not lost on Mariselle, who believes that giving back to your community also benefits you as an individual.
“It is important to be a volunteer because it makes you aware of the world around you and helps you appreciate all that we have and often take for granted.”
Through her volunteering experiences, Mariselle has learned that even small actions can have a significant impact.
“One small simple action can really affect someone, whether it’s by educating, making them feel safe or understood, or creating a long-lasting memory.”
Sunshine Coast Grammar School is proud to acknowledge Mariselle and her commitment to service and leadership. Her contributions embody the values we strive to instil in all students and her efforts have made a meaningful difference in our community.
Thank you, Mariselle!
