Sunshine Coast Grammar School is thrilled to announce that our Pool Life Saving Team, current students, and past students have been recognised for their tremendous efforts across their chosen sports at Sunshine Coast Sports Annual Awards.
Sunshine Coast Grammar Pool Life Saving Team was awarded the 2022 Team of the Year Award. From the team’s inaugural season in 2019 where six athletes represented Australia at the 2019 Commonwealth Championships in England, the Club has gone from strength to strength and won over 150 National Championship medals at 2020, 2022, and 2023 Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships combined.
Four athletes from the Club were also selected for the Australian Lifesaving Team and competed at the 2022 World Lifesaving Championships in Italy last September. The team was highly successful, winning the World Lifesaving Open and Youth Teams Competition.
Year 10 student, Grace Brimelow was awarded the 2022 Next Gen Athlete of the Year, Disability Award. Grace is an aspiring Paralympian and fierce athlete, competing nationally in swimming, aquathlon, triathlons, and cross country. Grace recently competed at the National Triathlon Championships in Tasmania where she claimed her second consecutive title.
Past student (class of 2021), Joel Piper was awarded the 2022 Open Athlete of the Year for his work across Surf Lifesaving Disciplines. Joel will now travel to Perth for the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships. Joel is currently studying Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Year 9 student, Freya Goldston was also recently recognised and won the 2022 Q4 Next Gen Athlete Award. Freya is a competitive swimmer at Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimming Club and an ambassador for Diabetes Australia. She was recently part of the Diabetes Australia engagement campaign to improve health outcomes for everyone with diabetes.
The Annual Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of athletes and teams, officials, coaches, volunteers, administrators, and clubs and associations from grassroots to high performance. Sport at Grammar is about ensuring that we develop outstanding young people who understand success is about participation, discipline and commitment. We are so proud of our inspiring athletes and their dedication to their chosen sports. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work and commitment.
