Secondary School Subject Offerings

During the formative years we foster the academic, cultural, sporting and spiritual growth of our students with an emphasis on the adolescent learner.

In Years 7-9 our aim is to inspire our young people and to fully engage and challenge students so they love learning and love coming to school. It is possible to have rigour and for students to enjoy learning.

At Grammar we are committed to providing a quality education (P-12) in which each individual child is encouraged to strive for excellence, in all of their endeavours, by being the best they can be.

In Years 7 to 9 we seek to inspire, engage and challenge our students to embrace a love of learning each day with a commitment to working to meet the needs of the adolescent learner by using:

LOOKING FOR THE FUTURE – CHOOSING SUBJECTS

It is important to choose Year 10 subjects wisely, as many are highly recommended courses for further study in Years 11 and 12. Students who are aware of the areas they wish to study in Years 11 and 12 can select preparatory units to benefit the levels of subject area understanding held on entry to senior courses. Other students may select their elective subjects to further their personal understanding of the subjects they enjoy or have ability in.

CHOOSING SUBJECTS FOR YEAR 10

Students participating in Year 10 at Grammar will study their subjects in the following structure:

  • Core subjects of Mathematics (Mathematics Ten OR Mathematics TenPlus, as advised by letter from the Head of Learning Area – Mathematics), English, Health and Physical Education, plus Christian Studies for the entire year.
  • One semester each of three (3) elective subjects (ie six electives for the year); at least one (1) of which must be Science elective, and at least one (1) of which must be a Humanities elective. Science and Humanities are core subjects within the Australian Curriculum.

CHOOSING SENIOR SUBJECTS

Students will choose six (6) subjects from those listed. Every attempt will be made to ensure that students are able to study their first choice of subjects; however, timetable and personnel constraints may mean that some students may be asked to reconsider their selections.

At Grammar:

  • All students must study either English or English Communication
  • All students must study one of the Mathematics Subjects

Students are advised to consult the Dean of Secondary Schooling for information about tertiary institutions, prerequisites and field position requirements.

Testimonials

We are extremely pleased with ELC’s exceptional care and the significant progress our children have made. The additional effort from the ELC team is evident in their development, with both of them, including Brock, showing remarkable boosts in confidence and readiness for their next educational steps.

Each of us are truly blessed to teach, learn and play alongside such passionate, respectful and caring people every day at Grammar. To share each day with staff, students and their families in a school community built solidly on service above self and looking outwards to others is indeed humbling.

We have two kids that attend the centre and this is now our 4th year. We did attend another centre for a short period but missed Grammar ELC so much we came back and couldn’t be happier! There are minimal staff changes which means we are familiar with every educator there and they know all the children. The number of…

We couldn’t want a better place of care and education for our son. We have complete confidence dropping him to Grammar Early Learning Centre that he will be very well looked after and leave each day with a happy child. What more could we want as parents.

Riley has been at Grammar Early Learning Centre for over 18 months. She loves her teachers and has developed beautiful friendships with the other children. We moved to Queensland earlier this year and are in awe of the care and love given to both our children, Jack and Isla. The teachers seem to appreciate my children’s individuality and understand their challenges, the progress we’ve seen in both of them through the year has been wonderful.  We are so grateful to have a safe and fun…
