Grammar recently showcased exceptional talent and sportsmanship at Tennis Queensland’s Brisbane International Primary Schools Cup this month, with two teams returning as Queensland State Champions and Runner Up.
The prestigious tournament is held in conjunction with the Brisbane International and provides students with an opportunity to compete against the top tennis schools in the State.
Two teams consisting of 14 Grammar students, qualified for the State Final with their journey beginning with a special introduction at Pat Rafter Arena. Students were provided with an inside look at the life of professional players, exploring training areas and networking with some of the athletes.
Our Red Ball team competed fiercely, winning most matches and defeating some of Brisbane’s top-ranked teams. The victories secured them first place and the team was crowned Queensland State Champions.
Our Orange Ball team were equally impressive, remaining undefeated and overcoming strong opponents to advance to the final. Despite another evenly matched game with scores tied, the team finished as Runners-Up in the State Final, a commendable achievement among 15 highly competitive teams.
Congratulations to both teams for their exemplary display of Grammar Grit and Pride. A special mention to Head Coach Clint Fyfe and Coach Nick Crispin for their pivotal role in guiding our players, as well as attending numerous Tennis Queensland coaches’ conferences and courses. Teacher in Charge of Tennis, Ms Sandra Ferrier, also played a significant role in supporting our teams throughout the competition and received a well deserved award from Tennis Queensland in recognition of her outstanding dedication and support to tennis.
