Over 40 Sunshine Coast Grammar Pool Lifesaving Club members are currently competing at the World Lifesaving Championships that are taking place until 8 September at the Gold Coast.
The prestigious biennial event showcases excellence in lifesaving through various rescue events on the beach, in the ocean and in the pool and this year have drawn over 5,000 competitors from more than 50 countries.
Among the competitors are several Sunshine Coast Grammar School students and staff members participating alongside their Surf Lifesaving Clubs, including:
- Mikail S (Year 10), Will V (Year 10) National Youth Teams Championships
- Reagan C (Year 9), Byron D (Year 11) World Interclub Youth Championships for Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club
- Year 4 teachers Mr Ian McGregor and Mrs Jeannie-Baxter Reid
The Club is also proud to have two of its members representing the Australian Life Saving as Captains for the Open and Youth Teams. Well done to Mariah Jones and Riley Brennan
Established in 1999, Pool Lifesaving at Grammar is celebrated for building confidence, teaching teamwork and encouraging participants from around the world.
Club President, Head Coach and teacher at Sunshine Coast Grammar School, Mrs Jeannie Baxter-Reid has been instrumental in the Club’s success having been involved with Royal Lifesaving Society and Pool Lifesaving Sport for over 40 years.
Mrs Baxter-Reid’s experience and passion led to the formation of the Sunshine Coast Grammar Pool Lifesaving Club in 2019, which now boasts over 50 members from Sunshine Coast Grammar School as well as other Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria regions, with athletes ranging from 9-70 years of age.
Since its inception in 2019, where six athletes represented Australia at the 2019 Commonwealth Championships in England, the Club has gone from strength to strength and won over 150 National Championship medals at 2020 – 2024 Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships combined.
Sunshine Coast Grammar continues to uphold its reputation for excellence in pool lifesaving, fueled by the dedication and teamwork exhibited by students, coaches, staff and supporters, and anticipates another successful season ahead.
