Sunshine Coast Grammar School is proud to announce that Year 11 student, Grace Brimelow and swimming coach Emilie Miller, have been selected to represent Australia at the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, competing in Triathlon and Wheelchair Rugby.
Grace Brimelow is a talented athlete, achieving three gold medals this year at the World Triathlon Para Cup in Spain, Oceania Triathlon Para Champions in Stockton and the World Triathlon Para Championships in Devonport. Grace has won five international titles in triathlon since hitting the international circuit in 2022. Not only is Grace an elite triathlete, but she also excels in the pool, claiming silver and bronze medals at the 2024 Swimming Australia Age Championships.
Grace became involved in triathlons after former national triathlete and Grammar Physical Education Teacher, Mrs Maureen Cummings, saw her talent in running and swimming and encouraged her to give it a go.
Grace has her sights set firmly on Paris and as a first-time Paralympian is eager to show the world how capable she is, and to never judge a book by its cover. Her dedication and passion for both triathlon and swimming have earned her a well-deserved spot on the Australian team.
Emilie Miller, Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimming Coach, is a natural athlete and brings a wealth of experience to the Paralympics. Despite a quadriplegic spinal injury at a young age, Emilie’s resilience led her back to the pool and eventually to wheelchair rugby. Although this is Emilie’s first games, she is no stranger to elite sport, paracycling at an elite level since 2015 before picking up wheelchair rugby in 2021. Emilie has now been selected as part of the reigning wheelchair rugby world champions, the Australian Steelers and is ready to make her mark in Paris.
“Sport provides a powerful platform for everyone, especially for people with a disability,” says Emilie.
“It is an essential part of rehabilitation, offering social connections and meaningful training experiences.”
The entire Grammar community is behind Grace and Emilie as they embark on this incredible journey to sporting greatness. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to all students, demonstrating that hard work, determination and resilience can lead to remarkable opportunities.
We look forward to cheering them on as they proudly wear the green and gold in Paris.
