On Friday 7 June the Sunshine Coast Grammar School community gathered to commemorate 28 years since the sod was turned on our unique rainforest playground and was marked by gratitude, reflection and a profound sense of pride in our school’s journey.
As part of the celebrations, we acknowledged our Life Long Learner students and their families, alongside our dedicated staff who have served our school community for 10, 15, 20 and 25 years.
Foundation Day is an exciting day for our school, it provides the community with the opportunity to reflect on the growth of the school over the years and look forward with great ambition to the future.
This year, we were privileged to hear from one of our distinguished Alumni and 2007 School Captain, Dr Philip Janz. Dr Janz is the Director of Queensland Representative School Sport at the Department of Education, overseeing the state’s school sport program. Throughout his accomplished career, Dr Philip Janz has exemplified the values instilled at Sunshine Coast Grammar School through his academic achievements, athletic excellence, and devotion to serving young people. His ground-breaking research and leadership roles have positively impacted countless students across Queensland and Australia.
Additionally, we also heard from long serving staff member, Brendan Daniel Director ICT Services, who delivered a heartfelt address reflecting on his 20 years of service at our school. Brendan spoke passionately about the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning at Grammar, highlighting the transformative educational experience our school offers its students.
Through their actions and commitment, our students and staff, past and present, have exemplified what it means to be part of the Grammar community and live the motto, Where Passion Meets Purpose, every day. Grammar’s sense of pride, community, and green heart runs deep and it is these foundations that make our school unique
Looking ahead to the next 20 years, Sunshine Coast Grammar School sees a school community looking purposefully to a future of distinction.
“Our aim is to be creative and ambitious, supported by progressive thinking about the place and value of education in an increasingly complex world,” said Principal, Mrs Anna Owen.
Schools are communities and Grammar is well known for its enduring sense of community.
Our Foundation Day celebrations are an opportunity for us to honour and uphold our traditions and school spirit. Celebrations concluded with the hotly contested and cherished tradition, the running of the Grammar Gift, featuring the fastest students in the school. ‘We pride ourselves on these connections and the supportive and caring relationships students establish and maintain with their peers and teachers throughout their time at school,’ said Mrs Owen.
Thank you to everyone in our Grammar community for celebrating this special milestone with us.
