Sunshine Coast Grammar School students were excited to unite over the weekend as part of the School’s service leadership program, joining forces with Bloomhill Cancer Care and supporting a local family in need at our annual Backyard Blitz.
This year, over 40 enthusiastic students rallied together to uplift a local family in need, transforming their Glasshouse home with a much-needed backyard makeover. From tackling gardening and mowing tasks to painting and cleaning, our dedicated volunteers rolled up their sleeves and approached each task with passion and purpose.
Sunshine Coast Grammar School has been proudly affiliated with Bloomhill Cancer Care for over 15 years, collaborating on initiatives like the Backyard Blitz to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
The School’s Grammar Helping Hands program encourages students to show support and help local families in times of need. Led by Mr Ben Princehorn, Coordinator of Community and Service, the program emphasises hands-on experiences, empathy and a commitment to serving our community with passion and purpose.
“Our students recognise the importance of social responsibility and actively engage in initiatives like the Backyard Blitz to support our community,” said Mr Princehorn.
Through strategic partnerships with community organisations such as Bloomhill Cancer Care, Sunshine Coast Grammar School actively contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), instilling in students a sense of social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
“We believe in nurturing changemakers who are equipped to make a positive difference in the world,” said Mr Princehorn.
Through giving their time and energy, students throughout the School develop a strong sense of community engagement and build empathy for those less fortunate. The Backyard Blitz is a great opportunity to connect with our community, have fun with friends and make a real and meaningful difference in the life of someone in need.
